A watershed pioneer, a school with a commitment to environmental education and a community group committed to a cleaner Island are the winners of the 2013 Prince Edward Island Environmental Awards.
Three distinguished Islanders - the Honourable Alexander B. Campbell of Stanley Bridge; Dr. Joyce Madigane of Bideford; and Vera Elizabeth Dewar of Stratford - have been named as the 2013 recipients of the the Order of Prince Edward Island.
Premier Robert Ghiz is congratulating Invesco, a leading independent global investment management firm, on the growth of its Island operations. Invesco employs 250 Islanders at its global enterprise centre in Charlottetown which opened in 2007.
The Premier's Award for Diversity Leadership in the Public Service honours public servants demonstrating leadership, promotion and management of diversity and inclusiveness. The 2013 award winners include public health nurses Lauretta Taylor and Michelle Vloet-Miller and the Child and Family Services Division of the Department of Community Services and Seniors.
A new $8 million investment in education technology will benefit student learning in schools across the province. The Government of Prince Edward Island has entered into a partnership agreement with Eastlink that will see all 65 school sites upgraded to equivalent standards.
